4 Tips to Update Your Workplace Wardrobe

Wardrobe for the Workplace

At least two times each year every woman should go through her workplace wardrobe and update her look.

This process involves two steps: cleaning out your closet to discard older items, then adding new, updated pieces to your repertoire to makeover your look.

Use these tips for updating your workplace wardrobe this season.

Clean It All Out

Set aside about 30 minutes on a Saturday morning to go through every item of clothing you currently own and store. As you come to each piece of clothing, as yourself these questions:

  • Does this item fit me correctly?
  • Does this item make me feel good about myself?
  • Can this item easily be mixed and matched with most of my wardrobe?
  • Have I worn this item at least twice in the last year?

Based on your answers to these questions, place each piece of clothing into a “give away,” “store away” or “put away” pile. After you return your “put away” pile to your closet and dresser drawers, you’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to find the clothing you like when it’s time to get dressed for work.

Pick Up Some Platforms

Seventies style is back in a big way, but you don’t have to wear bell bottoms and high-waisted jeans to apply this trend to your workplace wardrobe. Simply match a pair of woodblock platform heels with your usual pants-and-blazer combo, and you’ll instantly look on-trend.

Add Some Color To The Workplace

Bold, bright colors are another fashion trend that’s making the rounds. Rather than investing in a neon skirt or button-down shirt that will run its course in one or two wears, consider picking up a bright belt, bag or watch. You can add these items inconspicuously to your wardrobe, garnering compliments from your coworkers for your understated style savvy.

Make Your Wardrobe New Again

While you cleaned out your wardrobe, you may have found a number of older items that you genuinely like, but you’re not sure how to make them look new again. Take a few minutes to think outside the box and imagine those items paired with other clothes you’ve never matched them with before – maybe you could turn a long-sleeved blazer into a stylish vest, or maybe you could layer a tunic over a pair of old pants. By mixing up your wardrobe and adding stylish accessories, almost any old clothing item can become new again.
